The lever-action Winchester 1873 and the Colt Single Action Army. Winchester and Colt were arguably the dominant rifle and pistol manufacturers of the day, and while there were dozens of companies making firearms throughout the 1860s - 1880s Colt and Winchester today have come to be recognised as two of the the most important manufacturers. They are certainly the most recognisable thanks in no small part to the popularity of Cowboy and Western movies. It could be said that the Winchester was, for a time, the most recognisable rifle in the world before it was replaced by the AK-47.
